PROGRAM NOTE:
Trigger refers to the mechanisms of the instruments used in the work - both are ‘triggered’ by a striking action. Also, an event in one instrument may trigger another in the other instrument.

The work is very much a 'duet' between the two instruments. Indeed, the two instruments often resonate 'as one' despite the continual use of polyrhythm between the players (and furthermore between the four individual hands).
